Recover emails after PST file corruption due to increased size
We all know that Microsoft Outlook stores all the data in a single file called Outlook.pst. It stores all the email messages, calendar items, contact records and more. The more emails you receive the larger will grow your PST file. Similarly, the more you create contacts, tasks, calendar events etc, the bigger the file will grow. In Outlook the .pst file size is limited to a 2 GB. If a .pst file goes beyond this size limit, .pst file becomes corrupt and retrieval of emails and data from this oversized .pst file becomes difficult.
However, the most common reason that can corrupt a working PST file is 2 GB storage limitation of MS Outlook. Outlook usually indicates with messages that your PST file is about to cross the maximum size limit of 2 GB. When ever you get such a message do not ignore it. If you want your pst file to remain healthy, simply create a backup of your important emails and delete them from the pst file. But, if you are unable to manage to do so and your pst file has got corrupt due to crossing the 2 GB size limit, then you have no other option to solve it.
Microsoft offers Inbox repair tool and oversized OST and PST crop utility to solve pst corruption problems. Inbox repair tool is not of much help in this scenario. Oversized OST and PST crop utility works by deleting about 25 MB of data from the file. This will however solve the problem, but the only drawback is that you will not be able to control what data you will lose when using it. Some amount of data loss is expected.
When it comes to recovery of sensitive emails, entrusting the corrupt PST file in the hands of in-built recovery tools is not recommendable.
